LLB Hosts 2nd Annual LEAD Event

On Saturday evening, November 11, 2017, we hosted the second annual LEAD (Leadership. Education. Athletics. Dreams.) Event at YSC Sports in Wayne, PA. 250 friends and supporters gathered for a night of food, dancing, beer pong, corn hole, and, most of all, fun. Blaine’s spirit, joy and laughter filled the room. The event raised $160,000 for our FIT TO LEAD programming, including our annual Captains’ Practice Leadership Conference, Harlem Lacrosse Philadelphia, and our Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy scholarships.

Christine Page, Harlem Lacrosse Program Director at the Finletter School in the Olney section of Philadelphia, spoke to the crowd about the incredible impact Harlem Lacrosse has had on her students in just three short months. Finletter teacher James Groff also spoke about the positive effect the Harlem Lacrosse program is having on his students. But the real highlight was hearing from Harlem Lacrosse student athletes, Kadiatou and Elijah, about how Harlem Lacrosse has influenced their lives.

Thanks to all who joined us for the evening and supported Live Like Blaine’s effort to help young women become FIT TO LEAD.

LB Hosts First Annual LEAD Event

On Saturday evening, November 12, 2016, we hosted the first annual LEAD Event at YSC Sports in Wayne, PA. LEAD stands for Leadership. Education. Athletics. Dreams. 300 friends, family and supporters gathered for a night of food, dancing, beer pong and, most of all, fun. Blaine’s spirit, joy and laughter filled the room. The event raised over $130,000, but the real success of the evening was introducing Live Like Blaine’s FIT TO LEAD program, highlighted by our partnership with Harlem Lacrosse.

Simon Cataldo, founder of Harlem Lacrosse shared the story of introducing lacrosse to 11 middle schoolers at Frederick Douglas Academy in Harlem in 2007 and the growth of the program from there.

But the real highlight was hearing from Harlem Lacrosse student athletes, Jordany and Kadi, about how Harlem Lacrosse changed their lives. Hearing Jordany talk about his journey from an at-risk youth to a young man who now wonders not if but where he will attend college inspired us all.

Burpees for Blaine

Burpees for Blaine Raises Over $100,000

Burpees for Blaine challenged people around the world to do burpees to honor Blaine’s commitment to fitness and to celebrate challenging themselves both physically and mentally. The breadth of the community that did burpees—Blaine’s friends, coaches, teammates, sorority sisters, bunkmates, family and those who were just touched by her life and memory—speaks to the impact she had and continues to have.

Hundreds of supporters around the world did tens of thousands of burpees over the 100 days from March 22, 2015 to June 29, 2015, culminating in the Burpees for Blaine Burpeethon during which Sid and Blaine’s family and friends did 122 burpees an hour for 11 straight hours!
